Liberation and Decolonial Therapy

In person in San Francisco and telehealth in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and across California

Psychic decolonization is the process of developing critical consciousness around colonialism, capitalism, and other power structures—and reshaping your worldview, choices, and relationships in response. Liberation and decolonial therapy supports this process by focussing on unpacking internalized oppression, reclaiming your autonomy, and restoring cultural and communal practices that sustain you.

Liberation and decolonial therapy is for those who are:

  • Developing critical consciousness of systemic oppression and social hierarchies

  • Experiencing major life or relationship transitions as you shift your relationship with power

  • Navigating intergenerational histories of colonialism and political violence

  • Facing marginalization or systemic oppression, including racism, classism, ableism, cis-heterosexism, fatphobia, or mononormativity

  • Seeking to reconnect with community, collectives, and interdependent ways of being

Liberation and decolonial therapy emphasizes:

  • Clarifying your desire and what freedom and rootedness mean for you

  • Uplifting anger as a dignity-preserving emotion and exploring its meaning

  • Examining invisibilized power structures and internalized oppressive narratives that limit your autonomy

  • Reconnecting with cultural and ancestral wisdom

  • Centering collective rather than individualistic notions of self, trauma, resistance, and relationship

  • Making choices aligned with your values and desires

My approach emphasizes the social and historical context of individual struggles and culturally-responsive, centering Asian, Asian-American, and BIPOC experiences. I listen deeply, to both conscious and unconscious communications. Together, we’ll give attention to the marginalized or silenced parts of you, so that therapy can address the root causes and layered meanings of your symptoms, towards creating the life and relationships you truly desire.

I offer therapy to clients in-person in Downtown San Francisco or Pacific Heights, and online for clients in the East Bay, Peninsula, South Bay, Los Angeles, San Diego, and across California.

I invite you to book a free consult call to explore how we might work together. I look forward to connecting with you.

Neither imperialism nor colonialism is a simple act of accumulation and acquisition … [both] are supported and perhaps even impelled by impressive cultural formations that include ideas that certain people and certain territories require and beseech domination.” — Edward Said on Culture and Imperialism
