Individual Therapy — centering Asian, BIPOC, Queer & Poly folx

In person in San Francisco & virtual therapy in California

I specialize in serving Asian, BIPOC, polyamorous, and LGBTQ+ folx, especially those navigating life at the intersections of multiple identities. Clients often come to therapy to seek support in navigating:

  • Depression, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm

  • Relationship and family conflicts, and in particular around coming out, gender roles and cultural and generational differences

  • Racial, collective, and intergenerational trauma

  • Systemic oppression (e.g., racism, classism, ableism, cis-heterosexism, fatphobia, mononormativity)

  • Burnout, imposter syndrome, workplace microaggressions, and experiences of the glass or bamboo ceiling

  • Grief and loss—whether of a relationship, community, culture, or motherland

  • Caregiver stress and familial expectations around caregiving

  • Living between multiple cultures and identities

  • Integration of psychedelic experiences

I also work with those exploring:

I work from a depth- and liberation- psychology lens, which means I listen deeply - to both conscious and unconscious communications, and attune to your social and historical contexts. Together, we’ll give attention to the marginalized or silenced parts of you, so that therapy can address the root causes and layered meanings of your symptoms, towards creating the life and relationships you truly desire.

I invite you to book a free 20min consult with me, where you'd get an idea if we're a good fit for each other. We’ll talk about what you’re seeking, how we might work together, and any questions you may have. I look forward to connecting with you!

FAQs

  • I work from a psychoanalytic and liberation psychology perspective, attending to both inner experience and the social, cultural, and historical forces that shape your life. Therapy is a space to explore the deeper meanings of your struggles, honor parts of you that have been silenced, and move toward ways of living and relating that feel more aligned with your core values and desire.

  • Sessions generally focus on whatever feels most present for you, but I will also bring back recurrent themes over the course of therapy. Early sessions will also focus on taking your your personal and intergenerational history.

  • I meet with clients on a weekly or twice-weekly basis. The duration of therapy varies — some clients experience meaningful shifts in a few months, while others choose longer-term work to explore deeper layers of experience and to support significant life transitions.

  • I can work with a mix of English and Cantonese. If you’re seeking therapy for you or a family member solely in Cantonese, I’m happy to provide referrals.
